Sun In Gemini- Ego’s Busy Mind

Gemini Robert Fludd

Drawing by Robert Fludd, 17th c.

The Sun is the center of our solar system around which all the planets revolve. Likewise the Sun can symbolize the center of our life around which all the various parts of ourselves revolve. This Full Moon is asking you: What is the central organizing principal of your life?

For many of us the central organizing principal of life is the Ego.With the Sun in Gemini, an air sign, we have the opportunity to become aware of how much Ego defines our reality.  Our Ego is a self-constructed identity made up of our thoughts which tell us who we are, where we belong, what we should do, and how to maintain our identity. Maintaining this separate identity we have spent years building is the main  concern of the Ego. It is like we are self-creating identity machines, always producing more thoughts and needs and desires in order to maintain the Ego. A larger vision of Earth, the Solar System, Universe or our place in the aeons of time and our responsibility to this one, don’t matter to the Ego.

Our Ego-mind is so busy with maintaining the identity of this current life that it forgets that we are just one small part in a very huge interwoven net of Consciousness called the Cosmos. We need the personal self-awareness the Ego brings to be able to navigate this challenging world.  But Ego is only a tool that we can master. It is not the goal of our lives here on Earth nor does it set the agenda for the current incarnation. Our Spirit does that.

Moon in Sagittarius – The aim of Spirit

Astronomy

16th c. personification of Astronomy

The Moon represents our Soul, the inner essence which is steeped in memory and mystery. We can all tap into our Soul using the skills of intuition. With the Moon in Sagittarius, the archer who shoots for the sky, our Soul takes aim at the furthest reaches of the Cosmos seeking an expanded awareness of Spirit that connects us all. This beautiful 16th century personification of Astronomy hints at the expanses available to explore.

The Soul’s symbolic intuitive language is similar to the language of Spirit, which is also rich in metaphor and imagery. Our Soul has a direct link to Spirit, which also shines luminous in dark and mysterious places. This Full Moon in Sagittarius, a fire sign ruled by positive energy of Jupiter, calls on us to connect to the positive, optimistic visionary center of ourself. But to do so we will need to break free of our old Ego patterns of identity and our habitual ways of maintaining the boundaries of that identity.

The Moon realizes this is a very big request but feels that desperate times call for desperate measures.  In this Age of Aquarius, spiritual enlightenment doesn’t belong to a special select few; it belongs to all of us. This Full Moon in Sagittarius is reminding you to aim for your spiritual center and be supported by your spiritual truth.

The Balance:

This Full Moon is a time to balance the Sun and Moon. We can begin this work by clearing out old patterns of our Ego and opening up to new dimensions of our Soul. These new dimensions will lead us on a path that is Pathpersonally unique (Gemini) but inspired by a collective vision for Earth (Sagittarius).  Each of us are different people with different skills, resources, desires, values, and things that matter.  It is time to put aside the Ego’s reasons that we are not good, wise,  smart or brave enough. It is time to take the journey towards our deepest expression. Lao Tzu said “Even the longest journey must begin where you stand.” We don’t need to know each step of the way or even understand exactly where the journey ends. But it begins with who we are right now.

For You: The Earth needs you right now. Your unique gifts are important. There are not many people who have the resources, intelligence, freedom, and ability to do something about the crisis our world is facing. You are one of those few. Your light shines brightly and even the vast and magnificent cosmos is made up of the sparkle from individual stars. This Full Moon is imploring you to let go of your ego limitation and discover what fires you up both spiritually and personally. Become fascinated about your Soul’s wisdom and become curious about your journey into the unified Cosmos of which we are all a part.

Full Moon in Gemini

Gemini by Julie Dillon

Gemini by Julie Dillon

Tuesday December 17th 2013. Last month’s Full Moon was about letting go of the old stuff in your life that has been hanging around but that no longer serves you. You might have gotten a sense that you are not the same person you once were and that it is time to make changes in your life. You might know these changes are a good thing but still feel a bit lost because you are no longer who you were, but not yet the person you will become. You long for something fresh but still feel defined by old patterns that are very familiar.

This Moon in Gemini is about setting your mind and heart free from the expectations you placed on yourself in the past and open up to new ideas of who you are and what you want to do.  You may feel drawn to reconsider plans, ambitions, and goals you once made for yourself so that new possibilities can emerge. The Moon represents your unconscious, so on some deep level you may be feeling a need for complete freedom of thought and action. Like these Gemini twins rummaging through the vast sources of what is possible, allow your sense of self to become very curious, go wild and crazy, make a mess, and open up to thoughts, ideas, and actions you never before considered.

For you: One way to shift from old patterns to new possibilities it to change the word ‘should’ to ‘could.’ Our internal dictator often tells us what we ‘should’ do.  But with all the possibilities before you, what ‘could’ you do? Could you be an artist? a dancer? a teacher? Could you travel around the world? or go back to school? Could you repair the environment, find a new job or quit the one you have? Once you open to what you ‘could’ do, then ask yourself if it is what you want to do, and if so, then aim to make it happen. The Full Moon in Gemini is exact at 4:28 am EST on Tuesday December 17th.

May Full Moon in Sagittarius

art by Pamela Colman Smith

The Magician offers the balance between Gemini Sun’s conscious desire for immediate action in everyday life and Sagittarius Moon’s urge for transcendence and spiritual energy. The Magician in the Tarot is one of my favorite cards. It represents Mercury, and is therefore associated with Hermes Trismegistus. Hermes is considered the author of the Emerald Tablet which describes the essential connection between the microcosm and macrocosm, often stated “As Above, So Below.” A translation by Issac Newton, the great mathematician and alchemist says: Tis true without lying, certain & most true. That which is below is like that which is above & that which is above is like that which is below to do the miracles of one only thing.

For You: You are a Magician. You are a link between Heaven and Earth. Take a few deep breaths and settle yourself. Imagine that you are this Magician. First you link “As above and so below.” You stand proudly, feet firmly planted on the ground. One arm is stretched to the heavens and the wand in your hand is a conduit for the divine and spiritual reality that is felt but unseen.  Breathe and feel the energy of the transcendent flow through your arm. Your other hand is pointed towards the earth, your finger a wand that transmutes the heavenly energy from above into the solid ground where you see it take root in beautiful manifestations and creations, as symbolized by the flowering roses and lilies. You are dressed in a white gown, which demonstrates your essential purity. Over your gown you wear a red robe of action. Around your waist is the snake, symbol of your powerful kundalini energy, and above your head is the figure eight, showing your connection to unity and eternity.  Take another deep breath. Now connect to to your everyday life and the table which holds the reality from which you an work. You see four tools: Cup, sword, wand, and shield. The cup represents your Soul and your emotional world; The sword is your Mind and your discerning thoughts; The wand is your energy, and willpower; the shield is your Physical and material reality. Take a few moments to consider what you bring to the table. What assets do you have emotionally, mentally, energetically, and physically? How do you want to transform those assets with the spiritual energy that is moving thorough you? What do you want to manifest in the physical world? What are your intentions? Be bold! Energize your world and create a reality in which you want to engage and thrive.

See Moon and Jupiter conjoined in the sky

January 21, 2013  From around the world on the evening of January 21, 2013, the growing moon will shine right next to Jupiter. From North America, the pair are very close  – closer than we’ll see them again until 2026.  No matter where you are on Earth, look outside tonight for this wonderful pair of objects in the evening sky.  They’ll be the brightest objects in the sky and impossible to miss. They are exactly conjunct at 10:13 pm EST in the sign of Gemini at 6 degrees. Take some time tonight to go outside and make a wish upon the bright “star” by the Moon. With the Gemini energy, its a good time to ask for communication to be improved and conversations to become mindful, especially in our Congress, since today is the Presidential Inauguration, and the beginning of 4 new years of governance. And  anything at 6 degrees Gemini in your birthchart will receive a boost of great energy and momentum to expand.

For wonderful images of the pairing, and more information check out the EarthSky website.

Full Moon Wed. Nov 28th

The Sun is in Sagittarius, which is a sign of expansive thinking and broad visions. It is symbolized by the archer, whose arrow is pointed high into the sky. Sagittarius is all about big concepts like world peace, social justice, and the meaning of the cosmos. During this Full Moon let your consciousness expand and consider things you might think are beyond your reach. This is not the time to put blinders on your vision for yourself or the possibilities for our world. It is the time to reach for the stars. The Moon is in Gemini which combines the visions you have in your head with the love you have in your heart. During this Full Moon, what you think and what you feel right now are one in the same.  Let yourself integrate the dreams and visions you have for yourself and the world (Sagittarius) and start taking small actions immediately, led by your heart (Gemini).  This connection between Sagittarius and Gemini is also the connection between Heaven and Earth. We need both these perspectives. We need to stretch our vision far into the future and out into space, and we need to take actions that effect us in the here and now. It is a perfect Full Moon to open the way to the visions and actions that will create the transformed world of 2013. This Moon’s energy is expanded by its close alignment with Jupiter, the bright light you will see next to the Full Moon, and will continue to light up the sky for months to come. There will also be an eclipse on this Full Moon, though it will be very subtle and a bit hard to see.

This image is from a virtual choir that represents the energy of not only the Full Moon, but also of the new birth into 2013. I hope you take the time to click on this link  VIRTUAL CHOIR and use it as your meditation for not only this Full Moon, but also for Winter Solstice. Make the Youtube video full screen and be sure your speakers are working. Take a few deep breaths and center yourself. Expand your mind and open your heart. Then let yourself be uplifted by the connection of humanity that this choir represents, and how, in spite of our differences, we really are one with each other.  I can’t say it any better than this comment left by one person who was moved by what he experienced.
This is a perfect example of how strangers all over the world, from different cultures, races and religions can create something beautiful. Now if the rest of us can follow their example, the world would be a better place for ALL of us to live in. We are all just people. Human beings that despite our differences are all part of the same family. I hope that one day we all, ALL OF US, can live in the harmony that was beautifully presented here. Thank you for the inspiration, and the HOPE.

New Moon Solar Eclipse & Venus

Annular Eclipse from 2010

The New Moon will be at 7:47 pm EDT at 0 degrees of Gemini. It will also be an annular Solar Eclipse. This eclipse occurs when the Moon passes in front of the Sun, but instead of covering it entirely, like it does during a Total Solar Eclipse, it covers the center of the Sun, leaving a ring of fire around the Sun’s edges. Annular comes from Latin and means “little ring.” The Sun will be 88% covered, but that 12% of solar light can still damage your eyes, so if you are fortunate enough to be in the path of the Eclipse, please use protective covering.  The Eclipse will be seen in the western United States, but not in the Eastern part, nor in Western Europe. Here is a great site, Earth/Sky that shows the path of the Eclipse and the times when it will be occurring near you. SOLAR ECLIPSE PATH . Plus check out SHADOWANDSUBSTANCE for more details of viewing.  There is much being said about this particular eclipse. It is the first Solar Eclipse in the mainland of the US in the 21st century. It is the first annular eclipse in the US since 1994, and the next one won’t be until 2023.

Even if you can’t see the eclipse, you can still tune into the energy through meditation and ritual. Ac Tau, a Mayan elder, is holding a 2 day gathering of shamans in Mexico to bring in the energy of the 2012 transformation using the connection to frequencies and sound. He believes that this date is more important than 12/21/2012. And while annular eclipses occur with some regularity, people have noted that this particular alignment of the Sun and Moon hasn’t occurred for nearly 26,000 years. This is because the Sun and Moon are also aligned to the star Alcyone in the Pleaides constellation. Check out this link by Jo Dunning as she discusses how this moves our earth through a photon belt. And check out this link by Carol Ann Ciocco has quite bit to say about the importance of this eclipse to Alcyone and the Pleaides.  You can read these materials and see what resonates to you. With this eclipse in Gemini it points towards how we communicate and understand one another. Any eclipse is a connection between the yin (Moon) and yang (Sun). In this eclipse the Moon is creating a mandala on the Sun, covering most of it, but still allowing the bright illumination of the Sun’s fire to shine forth. Maybe that is what we need on this planet. 88% yin and 12 % yang!!  Focus on the connection between your yin and yang, and notice how you communicate and share your essence. What is your balance, and what do you think it needs to be, at least at time time in our collective lives.

Another important sky event occurs during this New Moon. On May 22 and 23rd it will be the last time this year that the Moon and Venus will be seen together in the sky. These two goddess lights have really been a powerful combination this Spring, and I will really miss seeing the lovely light of Venus so brilliant in the western sky. In June she will shift from the evening star to the morning star, and have a powerful eclipse of the Sun herself on June 5t-6th. I will write more about that in the June Moonletter. Suffice it to say, the Goddess energy of feminine divinity (which abides in men and women) has been very strong, and the feeling of love and compassion, as well as fierce protection, have been radiant in the sky.

Full Moon in Gemini

Gemini by Eric Williams

During this Full Moon on Saturday, December 10th at 9:36 a.m EST,  put your attention to connecting your spiritual and physical realities. Since the Moon represents your intuition and Gemini is in charge of your thinking, this is a good time to combine them into intuitive thinking. Intuitive thinking comes from slowing down your fast moving monkey mind and letting it rest on the gentle flow of the reflective ocean that is illuminated by Moonlight. (Pause for a second and imagine the ocean at night, illuminated by the Moon. Now imagine your mind as a yacht gently floating on the water. Ahhh.)

Most of us stay in memory thinking, recycling the same thoughts over and over again. We get stuck in patterns of the past. Albert Einstein said that “we can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” It’s time to  come up with fresh thoughts and new ideas.

To Do: Meditate on this lovely image. See the two young women as the part of you that is still hopeful, still curious, still wondering about how the world works and how you can best become engaged in its beauty. Then shift your focus to the dove. The dove has long been a symbol of spiritual connection. It is the dove that announces to Noah that the destructive flood has ended, and it is the dove that represents the seed of the Christ Child given to Mary at the Annunciation. See your own inner light, your own spiritual link, and imagine how your life will be different if you send that light out into the world, fearlessly, freshly. See the dove’s brilliance, hear the flapping of its wings, watch it sparkle in the light as it takes flight. Then watch it return to you, create a nest for it, nurture it so that you can send it out again and again.  Fully establish your link to spirit, your connection between heaven and earth.

Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse

The Sun is in Sagittarius, so the Moon is in the opposite sign of Gemini. During this Full Moon let your consciousness expand and consider things you might think are beyond your reach. This is not the time to put blinders on your vision for yourself. It is the time to reach for the stars. Sagittarius is the archer, and you can take aim and let your hopes and dreams take flight. Don’t hold back. Right now is the time to imagine yourself at your greatest possibility.

The Moon is in Gemini, and this points to a connection between your intuition and your intellect. What you think and what you feel right now are one in the same. It is time to embrace the expanded ideas that Sagittarius brings forth into your everyday life into your local Gemini community. Focus on the balance between your intellect and intuition, your expanded visions and your daily actions. Let yourself integrate the dreams and visions you have for yourself (Sagittarius) and start taking small actions immediately (Gemini). Be the change you want to see in the world. Mercury is also in Gemini right now, conjoined the Sun, so that just adds an explanation point!

A full moon is when the Sun and Moon stand in exact opposition from each other. During a lunar eclipse, the Earth moves between the Sun and Moon. It is the shadow of the Earth that you see moving across the Moon. At the height of the eclipse, for a total of 72 minutes,  the Sun, Earth, and Moon are lined up directly behind one another, and the Moon is completed dimmed. During the eclipse, the Sun, Earth, and Moon are in a powerful syzygy, or alignment. This eclipse will be visible, weather permitting, all over North America. In the eastern part of the US, it begins at 1:33 am on Tuesday, December 21st, is at its peak at 3:13 am, and ends at 5:01 am, as the graph illustrates.  On the west coast it begins  at 10:33 pm on Monday, December 20th, and ends in the early hours of Tuesday, December 21st. The last total lunar eclipse was two years ago, and the next one we’ll be able to see in North America will be April 15, 2014. You can watch a lunar eclipse with the naked eye, and the Moon will change colors through the event, until it is a deep red at its peak. For more information go to NASA, which is having forums and shared pictures the entire night of the eclipse. For an animated look at the time and movement of the eclipse go to http://shadowandsubstance.com/

The Sun represents your conscious Spirit, the Moon represents your intuitive Soul, and the Earth represents your physical body. During this eclipse those three parts of yourself are in perfect alignment, perfect syzygy. You now have the opportunity to integrate your intellect (Sun) and intuition (Moon) into your physical body (Earth). You can plant the seeds of consciousness into your bones, sinews, and senses. It is a reminder that you are a spirit in a physical body, and that the actions you take in your daily life, in your community, and in the world, really and truly matter.

This Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse takes place at 29 degrees of Sagittarius, which means it also aligns with the center of our galaxy, which is located near 27 degrees of Sagittarius. The Galactic Center is the rotational center of our spiral shaped Milky Way Galaxy, the churning whirlpool around which our own solar system slowly circles. At the center of our galaxy there is a huge black hole, and just last month I wrote about how scientists recently discovered huge bubbles of powerful energy radiating from the center. See my Blog for more.

For you: With this quadruple syzygy – Sun, Earth, Moon, Galactic Center- occurring on December 21st, you can tap into powerful universal energies to fuel the visions of expansive Sagittarius. Forget Red Bull. For the ultimate energy drink follow these instructions: Breathe deeply and center yourself. Imagine yourself as the Earth. In front of you is the Sun, behind you the Moon. The three of you are aligned in perfect balance and you feel the cord of energy that connects you, one to the other. Now, take that cord and extend it out, far out, into the universe, to the very core of our Milky Way. Drop your cord into the energy that is pulsating at the Galactic Center. Now start drinking in that energy by imagining with each in-breath that you are pulling the galactic energy through a straw, and bringing it down the straw through the Sun, and through you, the Earth, and into the Moon. Feel yourself radiate with strength and power. Repeat when needed.

Meteor Shower tonight!

Stay up all night Monday night, and keep looking towards the sky into the early light of Tuesday, December 14th to see the best meteor showers of the year. More than 100 meteors will fly through the night sky every hour. Peak showers will be early Tuesday, between midnight and sunrise. And you’ll be able to see them easily with the naked eye. That is, if it’s a clear night. The meteors are caused by debris of what was once believed to be an asteroid or comet. They will appear to come from the constellation Gemini, hence their name. Gemini is easy to find if you look toward the east in the night sky, and find its two large stars, the twins, Castor and Pollux. Click HERE to find out how to find Gemini in the night sky. Some meteors will be visible through December 16th. For more info on the meteor shower go to NASA.

While your staying up all night to watch the sky, mark your calendar for 3:13 am Tuesday December 21st for the Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse. That day will also be the Winter Solstice. I’ll write about what that special day means in my next Moon Letter. Be sure SIGN UP to receive my monthly newsletter that talks about what the Full Moon means to you.
