How do we balance two totally different, seemingly unrelated things? Like this month we need to find the balance between the Sun in Aries and Moon in Libra. Aries is the astrological energy of intense focus on “Me, Me, Me.” It is about my life, my ambition, my home, my faith, my destiny, my money, and so on. Libra, on the other hand, brings its focus to the question of “You.” It is about your life, your needs, your battles, your hunger, your hate, your love, and so on.

This beautiful image of a woman (The Moon in Libra) and a man (The Sun in Aries) is a perfect illustration for this dilemma. They stand looking at each other, reaching out, but there is something between them that keeps them apart. The large circle in the center holds the key to finding the connection. The thing that is between us can either separate us or be what holds us together. We can fight about our differences or we can find peace in the points of agreement.

We pretty much all agree that things are not going the way that they should and that something needs to change. But we disagree on what needs to change. This Full Moon is suggesting that we start agreeing that things aren’t going so well, and start with that. And then find the places we agree they aren’t going so well, and move ahead with that. This Full Moon is suggesting that we let the obstacles that separate us become opportunities to join us together.

Because this Full Moon is also a total lunar eclipse, the message of balance becomes even more highlighted, since an eclipse is a perfect alignment between the Moon, Earth, and Sun. So the large circle between the Moon/Woman and Sun/Man represents Earth, that place where we all meet together. Earth can become our place of agreed connection. I think we can all agree that food, shelter, water, work, money, health, survival, honeybees, bats, and other natural wonders are important. Let’s put our energy on finding solutions, not blaming each other for the problems. The way to balance Me and You, is to find our place together. It doesn’t mean to ignore my needs in order to meet yours. It means expanding my needs to include your needs and the needs of this planet.

For You: Take some deep breaths and let your body relax. Become aware of your individual body, your personal thoughts, your private needs, and your defined identity and ego. Feel very clearly your personal boundary. Now start to feel yourself expand. Move your thoughts and energies beyond your personal space and out into your house, then to your yard, to your city, state, country, continent, and now world. See the Earth as if you are in space and notice how perfectly beautiful it is. The Earth is your home and the home of every other person alive today. Notice how fragile it is, with only a thin layer of atmosphere around it, protecting it like a bubble. Think of one thing that you need in your personal life that is also needed by the Earth. Now think of another, and then another. Notice all the ways that your ambitions are also the Earth’s ambitions. Take a deep breath and return to your body and get a sense of your expansion. As you go about your day start to notice all the opportunities that arise where you can practice harmony and balance instead of separation and discord. Spend your day building energetic connections and verbal agreements, weaving you and me, together.

Happy Spring!!

The first day of Spring arrives on Wednesday, March 20th, and just in the nick of time. After the hard and harsh winter we have all had, we can use some warm and fresh energy. Spring occurs when the Sun moves into the zodiac sign of Aries. Aries signifies new beginnings and the power to push new growth from a cold ground.

I think this image represents the energy of Spring. We all know spring is a time for love, so visibly seen in the mating and nesting of the birds and the reproduction of bunnies. The man and woman mating in this image not only symbolize that very physical reality, but also the conjunction of male and female is a very old and powerful alchemical symbol that represents the blending of the masculine and feminine energies within. This leads to a new birth in each individual. The new birth of spring, either spiritual or physical, is represented by the egg, the container of all things new. We bring in the rebirth of Christ with an egg hunt. The date of Easter changes every year with the date of the Spring Equinox. Easter occurs on the first Sunday following the first Full Moon after the Spring Equinox, this year on March 31st.

To Do: Take some time on the first day of Spring to think about your intention for the new birth you want in your life. What is it that you want to bring into manifestation? What does your egg contain? What will it take for you to build the nest that will support its growth? And what will it look like once your intention hatches into a new and fledgling life?

Full Harvest Moon brings in 12.21.2012

Sept 29, 2012. Exact at 11:19 pm EDT.   This Full Moon is in Aries, which puts the focus on new births and fresh beginnings. This Moon is super-charged, since it is joined by Uranus, a planet of expanded consciousness, global vision, and evolutionary changes. Together, the Moon and Uranus are like a team of tech developers who stay up all night on Red Bull creating new programs to revolutionize our world. Tons of energy to fuel their expansive vision and no sense of limitations. It’s as if they have the whole universe at their fingertips.

Every so often we have something called a paradigm shift, which is a fundamental change so monumental it transforms the way we see, understand, and engage in the world. In the 16th century, thanks to Copernicus, we went from thinking that the we humans were the center of the Solar System, to realizing that the Earth and all its inhabitants were actually just one planet among many that moved through space as we circled around the Sun. I think we are now birthing into another such paradigm shift. In this shift we will go from thinking our Solar System is the center of the Universe, to realizing that our Solar System is just one star system among many that moves through the Milky Way Galaxy as we circle around the Galactic Center. This shift will bring us into an intimate connection with the larger universe, putting us into a relationship of unity and interconnection with the cosmos. Once we make that shift, we will start to view the Earth we live on as the unique vessel it is, one upon which we depend for survival. Fighting among ourselves in our own communities, competition among nations, destruction of the environment, waste and greed, will all be seen as self-defeating acts that sabotage our planet and only life line. This paradigm shift will not only change the way we view the universe, it will also expand our consciousness to such an extent that we could continue on our evolutionary journey from Homo habilis, Homo erectus, Homo neandertal, Homo sapiens, to our current, Homo sapiens sapiens into a new species. I call this new species Homo Spiritus, but others have called it Homo Evolutionary or Homo Universalis. Big stuff, indeed.

Of course any birth has its labor pains, and this will be no different. The Moon and Uranus in Aries are in alignment with Pluto, the planet of regeneration, and we can expect that the birth of the new will follow the death of the old. This “death and rebirth” part is what gets taken out of context when people discuss 12.21.2012, and the fear mongering and bad disaster movies take center stage. But once we move past fear, I think its pretty obvious to most people that the world can’t continue on the same path it is going and not hit a major crisis pretty soon. Our weapon technology alone has the ability to destroy all life on the planet. Our weapons are advancing faster than our wisdom. The parts of life that will pass away are the parts that need to change in order to allow a new birth to occur. For example, our dependence on fossil fuels will change as we develop more renewable energies. And personally, if I really expect to evolve into a Homo Spiritus, I will need to let go of my fears and self doubts. Our history as been defined, both religiously and environmentally, by cyclical changes of death and rebirth. This upcoming paradigm shift will fit in with the same archetypal pattern.

One last note of interest. This same alignment of Moon in Aries conjoined with Uranus in Aries and aligned with Pluto will also be present on 12.21.2012. This is the explosive, powerful energy needed to bring about the new birth of human evolution and consciousness. Click here for the whole MOONLETTER.

Bold Actions on the Spring New Moon

Susan Seddon Boulet

BE BOLD!! That is the message of this New Moon in Aries on March 22nd. Spring began on Tuesday when the Sun entered the sign of Aries. Aries is the first sign in the zodiac and represents bold action and new beginnings. Now with the Moon also in Aries, it  doubles the urge within to begin something new.  Taking this Spring energy to absolutely new heights,  Uranus, the planet of rash and unpredictable action, joins in to make this New Moon even more exciting and intense. Then toss in Mercury, also in Aries, and it time to take flight.

Perhaps you have been feeling an onrush of energy, like you are about to jump out of your skin. It may be coming out as anxiety, irritability, or a generalized funk. This is because there is a major change in the air. This is a powerful rush of energy in the world, like a change in frequency that is pushing our ability to download information to a new speed. We are feeling overwhelmed right now with how fast everything seems to be going. Its as if the solar flares that reached their peak a few weeks ago have short circulated not only our satellites and technology, but also our inner wiring. There is a sense of being jangled, on edge, as if there is too much caffeine in our system and we are stuck in high gear.

To Do: Sit down, take some deep breaths, and close your eyes. Turn your senses inward and feel the frequency of your energy. You can do this by pretending you are sitting in your car and the motor is running. How fast is it running? Is it just humming along, quiet and in the background? Or do you feel like it is reved up, ready to take off?   Or, to use another analogy, imagine that you are a powerful eagle like the one in this image. You are charged with the energy of the sun and your wings are flapping as you leap to take off. But you realize that your feet are bound, so you flap and flap and flap your wings trying to break your binds and take off. Faster and faster you flap, but all that does is heighten your sense of frustration and limitation, leaving you exhausted and discouraged.

This energy of the New Moon in Aries conjoined Uranus is an opportunity to look within and see what it is you really, really want to do right now in your life. Do you want to travel? write? have children? get a new job? run around the block? Whatever it is, this New Moon is saying to Just Do It! (I think Nike must have been inspired by a New Moon in Aries…) And if you are feeling held back, don’t fight against that which limits you. Instead, look at it clearly, make the changes you need to set yourself free, remove the binding from yourself. You are the only one who can do it. Ah…. set free…take flight… You will have time to ground and center this energy when the Sun goes into Taurus, which is on April 19th. Until then, put your attention and your energy to cutting the cords that bind you and set your vision on a new horizon.

Full Moon Tuesday at 10:06 pm edt

Aries by Eric Williams

This Full Moon: The Sun is in Libra, which means that your conscious awareness sees clearly the needs and demands of the people around you. Since Saturn is also in Libra right now, you might be asking yourself what you “should” do, and what is the “responsible” action to take. You look around and see yourself surrounded by family and societal expectations, and perceive that it is necessary to put everyone else’s needs before your own. But the Moon, your unconscious intuition, has a different agenda. In Aries, it longs for self expression, to take an action that is just for yourself alone. You sense the road in front of you and long to find the buried treasure at the end. With Uranus also in Aries right now, you might be thinking of doing something rash, walking out, taking off, and breaking free from obligations. Your heart is aching to express itself.

To Do: This Full Moon in Aries is asking you to listen to your heart. Hear the calling of your intuition. Pay attention to your dreams. Feel your desire to stretch out, take risks, and find the treasure that is you. Autumn reminds you that all life dies, and that the time left for you to truly live will not last forever. But it wants you to balance your need for self expression with your equally strong need for love, partnership and community, all the qualities represented by the Sun in Libra. Take time this Full Moon (Monday through Wednesday) to ponder how you can fully be yourself in the company of others. How you can see the ties that bind as the net that will catch you if you happen to fall on your journey. Let Uranus and Saturn join together to inspire new creative structures that will serve both your need for personal expression and for loving commitment.

Seven Planets Align in Morning Sky

Seven planets are lined up and possible to see in the east the next few mornings right before dawn. Astrologers call the Moon a planet since it does “wander,” which is the Greek meaning of the word “planet. ” Six of these planets are in Aries – Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus, and one in Pisces -Neptune.  I’ve written about all these planets in Aries already, which you can check out HERE. Examples of the chaotic action described by six planets in Aries (and one of them the lightening bolt energy of Uranus) can be seen in the destructive tornados that happened this week in the southeast, and the earthquake and tsunami  in Japan. I for one, will be glad when the fiery yang energy of Aries gets balanced by some watery and earthy  yin energy. Currently, Neptune in Pisces and Sun in Taurus provide some balance, but not enough to equal 6 planets in hard charging Aries.

All you fiery people – ones with Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius in your charts – are probably jumping out of your skin right now. Remember to breathe, don’t react too quickly to perceived insults, and get out in nature to stay grounded. Use this fast paced energy to get some thing done that requires a lot of active effort. Build a house, or something! Life will begin to become more solid when Mars enters Taurus on May 12, followed by Mercury on May 15. Once Jupiter moves into Taurus on June 4th everything should definitely calm back down.

How to see six planets at one time

Following is an excerpt from an article by Starry Night Education that describes how best to locate these planets. For the last two months, almost all the planets have been hiding behind the sun, but this week they all emerge and are arrayed in a grand line above the rising sun. Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter are visible, and you can add Uranus and Neptune to your count if you have binoculars or a small telescope. This sky map of the six planets show they should appear at dawn to observers with clear weather and an unobstructed view. If you go out any morning for the next four days, you’ll be treated to a view of the crescent moon and all but one of the naked eye planets. Because the moon moves rapidly from one morning to the next, it will only be part of the lineup for the next four mornings, but the four naked-eye planets will be there for the next few weeks. Venus is, as always, the brightest and most visible of the planets, and it can be your guide to spotting the others. About half way between Venus and the rising sun is Jupiter, the second brightest planet. Mars will be a tiny speck just above Jupiter, and Mercury another tiny speck about half way between Jupiter and Venus. Uranus is slightly more than one binocular field above and to the right of Venus, and Neptune is much farther to the right, about 40 degrees away in Aquarius. The Moon will be just above Venus on Saturday morning, and just above Jupiter and Mars on Sunday morning.

New Moon riot in Aries

New Moon in Aries Sunday April 3rd at 10:32 am eastern time.

It’s a cosmic free for all, and all the planets are invited! New Moons usually are subtle events, with nary a sliver of the Moon visible in the sky since the Moon is so closely bound to the much brighter Sun.  New Moons are more like a whisper than a bang. But not this time.

This time it’s more like a gathering of a band of thieves. Not only are the Sun and Moon in Aries, but we have the addition of Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus. Venus is near by in Pisces, and I think she must be tending bar. This leaves the heavy weights Saturn and Pluto to try to keep a handle on crowd control. If anyone could keep 6 planets in Aries into line it would be the authoritarian Saturn and head of the underworld, Pluto. But trying to hold in the freedom loving, adventuresome, risky, explosive, creative, and unpredictable energy of this Aries group would be hard for anyone to handle.

This is not the weekend to go out of town and trust your kids will not have a party while you are gone. Maybe you should add speed dial to the local police station. And this is not the time to explore the seedy part of town, or engage in anything risky, like drink and drive. You may be tempted to throw caution to the wind, but take a deep breath, slow down, and direct your energy toward something you can keep a handle on. Don’t do things that can spin out of control. This is a great weekend for getting outside and burning off some steam with biking or running. Go out to listen to music and dance like a mad man. Pull out those art supplies that are gathering dust and make a huge mess. This can be an amazingly creative time, fueled with new ideas and inspiration.

Of course we can expand our thoughts of barely controlled chaos much further a field, and focus in on the revolutions in the Middle East, especially the increasingly tense situation in Libya.   And the Uranian problems with the nuclear power reactors in Japan are not over yet. Radiation is leaking into the ocean, and no one is sure why or how to fix it.

This wild and crazy period will slow down Monday night when the Moon moves into the more stable sign of Taurus, and Neptune will provide a softening antidote in the sign of Pisces. I’ll write more about Neptune’s entrance into Pisces soon. But for now, send loving and peaceful energy into the world to create a counterpoint to the hot-headed ego-driven insanity of an Arian free for all. Fire is a good thing, but not when it burns out of control.

Fall Equinox and Harvest Moon

The Sun is in Libra, and the Sun is the conscious part of ourselves that is seeking and striving to be fully in its light – enlightenment. So this month, bring your total consciousness to your relationships. Open your ears to really listen with curiosity and respect, and open your hearts to allow the sweetness of compassion to strengthen the ties that bind you to the people in your life.

by Linda Holt-Ayriss

Moon in Aries. Oh boy. Watch out for emotional flare ups, challenging conversations, locking horns in battle, thoughtless actions. And all of this from a totally unconscious place. The Moon is our Soul, which lives in the realm of the unconscious and speaks through the language of emotions. So, to say that for the next few days we will all be unconsciously triggered by any little thing is a bit of an understatement. This Ram, the symbol of Aries, is prancing quite unconcerned through the wreckage of a volcanic eruption. I think that about says it all.

Aries is a wonderful energy. Passionate, fierce, energetic, direct, courageous, combative. But those are qualities best used with a certain amount of consciousness and intent. When Aries is hanging out with the Moon, and all reason is lost, and when it is fueled by Uranus and Jupiter, as it is right now, well, all bets are off. I suggest buying flowers, making dinner, seduction, flattery, humor, whatever it takes to get your foot out of your mouth.

The Sun leaves the sign of Virgo (remember her beautiful purity?), and enters Libra late Wednesday night. Libra is the sign of relationships and is represented by balance scales, an instrument that allows us to weigh two things in relationship to each other. I thought this drawing by one of my favorite artists, Susan Seddon Boulet, a more beautiful illustration of the balance between duality, than any picture of scales.

If you look closely (i.e. meditate) on this picture you will see much that reminds you of Libra. First, the duality, second, it is beautiful, and third, it is full of love. Hearts connect these two people and there is a cupid at the base, showing that the foundation of any relationship is love. And the butterflies signify transformation, which is part of any real relationship, that challenges us to grow. And the ears!! oh the ears! It is through listening that we create relationships. Libra knows that any relationship exists because of the connection between two people – not a projection of what we want a person to be – but a real connection based on truth, and honesty, and communication.

The Equinox happens twice a year, once in the Spring, and one in the Fall. It is part of the cycle of the Sun I mentioned in the last Moon Letter. Equinox means “equal” and it is when the day and night are equal in length. From this point on, night will gain the upper hand until we reach the Winter Solstice, when night is dominant and the light is short. The Fall equinox always occurs when the Sun moves into Libra, the sign of Balance. Libra represents the balance between day and night, between yang and yin, between love and war, between men and women, between …..

The Sun is in Libra, and the Sun is the conscious part of ourselves that is seeking and striving to be fully in its light – enlightenment. So this month, bring your total consciousness to your relationships. Open your ears to really listen with curiosity and respect, and open your hearts to allow the sweetness of compassion to strengthen the ties that bind you to the people in your life.

by Susan Seddon Boulet

During each Full Moon we have the opportunity to balance the opposing energies of the Sun and the Moon; this month we balance Libra and Aries. Libra is the refined, conscious, beautiful woman who seeks the best in all relationships in order to find harmony. In essence, she is Beauty.

Aries is the Beast. The lovable, but totally primitive and unconscious animal parts of ourselves that are so full of energy, that without them all the beauty in the world would die on the vine.  We need both of these energies. We need the passionate nature of our unconscious angers and emotions. But we also need them to be tamed by the desire for love and relationship.

This Full Moon, either Wednesday or Thursday (day or night, since the Moon puts out spectacular light into the dawn) meditate on how your unconscious beliefs and habits are creating havoc in your relationships. Are you reacting to your current lover like she was your x-wife? Are you overly sensitive about criticism because it reminds you of your father? Do you feel insecure due to your parents early divorce? The list of human foibles goes on. Be the Beauty. Allow your love and compassion and awareness to bring the Beast in yourself into harmony. This is the time of the year to balance that which is your darkness and that which is your light. Remember they need each other, for in the connection we are complete.

Fear and Love

What is the balance between Fear and Love.

At one extreme people right now in our country are afraid. The strong violent reaction to the Heath Care bill really brought that fact to the surface. Bullies are abounding, calling legislatures racial names, and throwing bricks through windows. People are afraid of losing their job, their home, their family, and even their country. There is a huge increase in gun purchases, and legislatures are passing new gun laws to allow people to pack weapons in schools, universities, bars, parks, and even Starbucks! Some people feel a need to have a weapon to protect themselves from what in their eyes is a very dangerous world.

On the other extreme people are full of love, hope, and faith. There are people who believe that some other force is watching this planet and that all the problems of the world will be fixed when this other force brings us the compassionate wisdom and salvation we need. Some people see this as an upcoming apocalypse brought on by Christ, others see it as Beings from another planet or dimension who are sending helpful energies to us through portals, others rely on Archangels as the spiritual force that will shift the vibration of the planet to love.

Both of these perspectives are valid, and have truth. But they also represent the far poles of Aries and Libra, of Fear and Love.  During this Full Moon take the time to find the place of balance between these two polarities. Ask yourself: What do I fear? How does this fear direct my actions? What is the source of this fear? Then ask yourself: What do I love? How does love direct my actions? What is the source of this love?  Once you have the two polarities understood, focus on that line between the Yin and the Yang, focus on the place where fear and love disappear. Where love and fear meld into a more perfect union.

There are so many examples of taking loving action to address something that you fear. For example, if you fear pollution of the Earth, plan to participate in an Earth Day Event on April 22nd. If you fear your child’s school is becoming a dangerous place, organize a parental group to address the issue and seek solutions. One woman, Vikki Hanchin, is finding the balance encouraging other women to become awakened to their power so that together we can begin to make the changes that the world so desperately needs, one person at a time. You can find out about her actions through www.wholepersonwholeplanet.com
